Wow...I get to be the first to post! Howdy from San Francisco! We sailors are lucky to sail all year here...and we're finally getting ourselves better organized for our event and teams set. It's unfortunate that we can't find out who is all registered, requiring individual communication from a registrar to help us straighten out registrations...when an individual signs up we could be including perhaps...a perpetual problem with Games registration, there's got to be a better way. But, in lieu of that I'll use this to ask around. We'll have a little bit clearer idea after today about how many we've got coming from the Bay Area, but wondering if we could just do a quick check in from around the world...who's in? Right now, pretty sure we'll have at least two boats in the Lightening fleet, maybe 3. Not sure if any in the Tartan fleet. Which of our old friends are heading to Cleveland to sail? I look forward to seeing you again and making new friends! You can look us up and contact us through our website, as well see pictures from all of our Games sailing years past...check us out: www.sfsailingteam.orgCheers, Heather Stewart SF Sailing Team

Hi Heather. I spent the weekend before last racing in the San Francisco Corinthian Yacht Club's Midwinters, so I sail The Bay from time to time as well. I'm not exactly local to SF, though. How far afield can one be and still be considered eligible to be part of the SFST?
I race a Lightning on Folsom Lake and occasionally out of Richmond Yacht Club for their dinghy regattas. It's a 1967 "Classic Glass". I've been sailing a Lightning for almost 10 years, most of it in the fleet in Dallas, TX. I moved to the Folsom area a few years ago. I grew up in the Cleveland area and learned to race on Tartan Tens out of Edgewater Yacht Club. You can guess that I'm pretty excited about being able to race in my class of boats along side the class of boats that I learned to race with, at the club where I learned to race!
I'm currently putting together a team. I was caught by surprise about the 31-Jan deadline to have at least 2 people registered for a team (including me) and I'm working VERY hard to make that deadline. It's possible, but still up in the air at this point. So I'm looking for more crew till then, and if I get shut out, then I'll be looking for a team that needs a Lightning skipper. If anyone's looking to "ride the Lightning" with me, let me know!
I first heard about Sailing as part of the Gay Games in 2006 in Chicago, but I found out too late to get a spot on a boat. Cologne was not going to happen for me. When I found out about Cleveland, I -JUMPED- at the chance! I'm so looking forward to meeting new friends and maybe even seeing some old friends depending on who ends up in certain teams from other parts of the country.
See you all in Cleveland - or maybe sooner!
Enjoy!

Hi Heather, The Knickerbocker Sailing Assoc. of New York will be sending two team to participate in the competitive class Lightning fleet. I agree that it would be cool to see the Teams who have registered. That might encourage more people to jump on board as there are limited opportunities to participate in this event. Regards,
Geoff McKnight Team Knickerbockers Knickerbocker Sailing Assoc.

Hello! Is there a need for experienced boaters (one of us is a commercial captain with the Lorain Port Authority) to volunteer with the sailing event/competition?

Thank you for the message Betsy. Yes, we have multiple opportunities to volunteer for Sailing. Here is the volunteer link 2014gg9.theregistrationsystem.com/en/1570. Once you register you can select the role and shift you would like to volunteer for. If you have any additional questions please reach out to our volunteer coordinator Chelsea Kertes, her email is CKertes@gg9cle.com. We look forward to seeing you at the games!

We have our skipper and 3 crew members confirmed but we also have an interested 4th crew member.
If I understand the rules correctly, we cannot register an alternate and the same team members have to participate in every race? Meaning no changes to the team for all week.
Thank you in advance of clarifying!

Yanick,
Below is the response from the sports director confirming your questions.
"This is true. Skippers can substitute crew up to the first race but not after. If they truly want to participate then I would encourage them to sign up and join a team that is looking for crew. If you want me to handle this just forward the info to me and I will take it from there"
Let us know if you have any additional questions. See you at the Games!

Hi Everyone, I am the skipper for team Galaxy from the Bay area. I'm currently residing in Alameda, and my crew are in SF and San Jose. We are all very excited to participate in the recreational division. I've been a sailing instructor for many years in Boston on rhodes 19s and J22s. I've never been on a Tartan Ten, but I'm not too concerned. However, if anyone here in the Bay knows of a yacht club with Tartan Tens that we could practice on, that would be handy! Feel free to email me at SarahLBenjamin at gmail Thanks! Sarah B.

Hello All, I'm looking for sailing crew for the upcoming Gay Games. I'm with the SF Sailing Team. I'm registered in the division without use of spinnaker. If you are interested, please email me at ceb3939@gmail.com. We can discuss specifics now. Sincerely, Cyndi Beck 415-722-9912
